![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() KAREN INGRAM is a designer, artist, and animator living in Brooklyn, NY. Ingram began her web career with a url called krening.com, a few stories written by a friend, and a simple desire to make her drawings move. Since that initial launch, Ingram's work has garnered much attention and appreciation. Her work has been profiled in various web, print, and art zines including Computer Arts Magazine, Flash Goddess.com, and Faesthetic. Her personal portfolio, kareningram.com was selected as on of 50 winning websites featured in STEP inside design's first "Best of Web Design Annual".
Ingram's work has been showcased in many books, including "New Masters of Photoshop, Volume 2", and "4x4 Photoshop and Flash: Time and Stasis", published by Friends of Ed, London. In each of these books, she wrote chapters with tutorials. Ingram's work has also been in several design books including "BUSINESS CARDS 2: More Ways of Saying Hello" (Laurence King), "Illusive" (Die Gestalten) and "RETHINK, REDESIGN, RECONSTRUCT" (HOW Design). Her designs and art have been used for mass production and distribution, from t-shirts in Japan (produced by Graniph, Tokyo) to bags and wallets in Australia (Produced by Nookart, Australia). Ingram also creates a series of postcards, printed in numbered editions of 500. Visitors who come to Ingram's website, (kareningram.com) can request a postcard, free of charge. This project was inspired by an attempt to merge tangibility with the accessibility of art on the internet. To date, there are ten postcards in the series. Thematically, Ingram (born in North Carolina) is drawn to natural & organic subject matter. Birds, mice, human body parts and hand made patterns find their way into her work. The Monk Parakeet in particular has become an important motif. The Monk Parakeet is surprisingly, a part-time resident of Brooklyn in addition to many places in the northeast. Its green coloring and vocal nature make it stand out from the greys of the city. An active member of the design & digital arts community, she is a news editor at Kaliber 10000 and a crew member of the Australian based design portal Design is Kinky. Ingram is on the board of the SXSW INTERACTIVE FESTIVAL and has judged the web awards since 2001. She also curated the first New York BD4D event in May of 2002. She has presented her work at events such as "Flash in the Can" in Toronto and at the New Orleans AIGA Biennial(2004), which she also judged. Ingram is a judge for the Webby Awards and a member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.
